Male victims of domestic violence

Domestic abuse can happen to anyone. If you are a man suffering from domestic abuse you may fear for your safety and that of your children. You may think that it is your fault and that by changing your behaviour the abuse will stop. You may experience conflicting feelings and emotions because you may love your partner but hate the abuse. You may be dependent, financially and/or emotionally. And, in the worst case scenario, you may be resigned and feel hopeless.

If you are a male victim of domestic abuse you don’t have to put up with it for fear of being ridiculed or disbelieved. It is a myth to believe that domestic abuse does not happen to men and there are services that can help and, importantly, take what you say seriously.

Nationally you can contact the mensadviceline.org.uk . Their confidential helpline is 0808 801 0327 (Monday to Friday 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm) or mankind.org.uk.
